Park House

Park House is part of Cossington Park and is let either as a separate holiday cottage or with Park Cottage as part of the greater Cossington Park

The house is on two floors. All six bedrooms are on the first floor. There is no lift. We hope that the information provided below is helpful. We have an informative website at www.cossingtonpark.com. The website shows indicative plans of the ground and first floors of the house. Bookings/enquiries can be made via email, fax, telephone or online. We can arrange for shopping to be delivered prior to your arrival. Please visit www.somersetfoodsdirect.co.uk and select items for delivery to Cossington Park. Lorraine will arrange for your goods to be received and stored awaiting your arrival. We can provide information in large print on request.

Arrival & Car Parking

The nearest train station is Bridgwater which is 4.7 miles away. Taxis are available at the station; telephone numbers are on our website and at the end of this statement.

Access Statement

The nearest bus stop is right outside the entrance to Cossington Park. It is on the left as you approach our entrance gate, 18 metres from the front door. There is a covered bus shelter with seats. Bus no. 375 (operated by the First Bus Company) stops here and goes to Wells and Bridgwater. The bus timetable is displayed on the wall in the bus shelter and in our Guest Information File, or can be obtained by calling Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or visiting www.traveline.org.uk.

There is private, off-road car parking at Cossington Park. This is accessed through the first set of double gates on the other side of the bus stop. The gates can be left open for your arrival on request. The gateway leads a short distance along a gravel/grass drive to an area of slightly uneven concrete. To reach the back door of the house, there is a level walk of approx. 30 metres on grass and gravel. The path is 90 cms at its narrowest point. En route there is a gateway 98 cms wide and the entrance to the house is 84 cms wide. There is no step into the house.

The front entrance pathway from the road is a level concrete surface 112 cms wide with three 7 cm steps. There is a heavy wooden gate 103 cms wide with a latch and a porch entrance which is 86 cms wide. The distance from kerbside to front door is 10 metres. There is a 6 cm step up into the house. The front door way is 84 cms wide. There is no hand rail. The first key hole is 95 cms from the ground and the second is 110 cms high. The hinges of the front door are on the right hand side.

Hall

Inside the door is a 266 cm wide hallway. There is a staircase which is 84 cms wide and has steps which are 18 cms high and 28 cms deep. There is a banister on the left hand side all the way to the top step and a further banister rail runs for 90 cms on the right hand side where the 11 steps curve round to the right. At the top of the stairs there are banisters around the top opening. Child safety gates are available if required. There is a second, narrower staircase. Also accessible from the Hall is the back door (84 cms wide) leading to the garden.

Downstairs Cloakroom

Off the main hallway to the right is a WC with separate urinal. The doorway is 75 cms wide and there is level access. The floor area is 115 cms x 180 cms. Drawing Room The drawing room is to the left of the main hall and has level access through a door 87 cms wide. This room has a high- backed winged armchair.

Morning Room & Library Dining Room

The Morning Room is to the right of the Hall and has a 7 cm step down through an 87 cm wide door. Free space near the door is 90 cms x 110 cms. A level corridor 90 cms wide at its narrowest point leads from the Hall to the Library Dining Room through a door measuring 87 cms. This is a large room with space for a wheelchair.

Breakfast Room

The Breakfast Room or Pantry is accessible from the corridor leading from the Hall and is on the same level. There are French windows 115 cms wide leading to the Kitchen Garden. There is a step of 19 cms down to the Kitchen.

Laundry

The Laundry is accessible from the Breakfast Room/Pantry through a door 77 cms wide. It has front-loading washing machine and dryer.

Kitchen

The Kitchen is accessed from the corridor that leads from the Hall through double doors measuring 90 cms and down a 15 cm high step. The sink is 93 cms from the floor with cupboards underneath. The electric cooker hob is 91 cms high. The floor has terracotta tiles. There is at least 95 cms of space between furniture and worktops. There is good visual contrast between work surfaces, flooring and walls. There is a 19 cm step up to the Breakfast Room/Pantry from the Kitchen. There is level access to the Scullery.

Bedrooms

The six bedrooms are situated on the first floor. Whilst none is especially designed to meet the needs of disabled people, the ‘Nursery’ bedroom is probably the most suitable. There is level access from the top of the stairs along a corridor 98 cms wide, through a door 74 cms wide. The room can be configured as a twin or double and has an en suite shower room. The bed is 60 cms from the floor to the top of the mattress. Synthetic duvets and pillows are provided together with allergy-proof pillow and mattress protectors. Sheets and duvet covers and pillow cases are 100%, 300-thread cotton. The largest available transfer space is to the left of the bed and measures 150 cms square. The entrance to the Nursery bathroom is on the left side of the bed. There is a 6 cm step into the bathroom. The floor area in front of the washbasin and WC is 110 cms x 150 cms. The height of the WC seat from the floor is 43 cms; a toilet seat extension is available that raises the seat height by 20 cms. The floor is tiled. There is little visual contrast between floor, walls and furniture. The washbasin has a pedestal with no vanity unit underneath. The shower cubical has two sliding/pivot doors. The shower tray measures 116 cms x 74 cms. The shower fitting is on the right hand side. Soap and shampoo are issued by dispenser on the left wall. There is a 23 cm step into the shower. The shower controls are 100 cms from the floor. Grab rails will be added soon. A bath seat (height 20 cms) and adjustable bath board are available fur use in the Great Tom Bathroom.

Garden & Grounds

The large grounds are available to guests. They are mostly grassed with flower beds and some rare trees. We have three wildlife ponds which attract the rare great crested newt. There is a dedicated play area with wooden fort and play equipment sited on bark chippings and a small football pitch with goals. Croquet and some outdoor toys and games are available.

Additional Information about Cossington Park

Sisal and seagrass natural floorings have been used throughout the corridors, stairs, landing and Morning Room. There is a short-pile carpet in the Drawing Room and a wooden floor in the Library Dining Room. Bedrooms are a mixture of carpet, wood and rugs. Bedding consists of man-made fibres except for the Chaucer bedroom which has natural feather bedding. Allergy pillow protectors and mattress covers are used throughout the bedrooms. There is a wide variety of chairs with or without arms and with high back rests and in some cases wings. These may be relocated to accommodate individual needs. There are televisions in the Drawing Room and Library with remote controls and digital channels. There is a CD/DVD player in the Library and video player and midi hi-fi in the Drawing Room. Some games are available. There is a pay phone at the property for the use of guests; the telephone number is 01278 722210.

Evacuation of the premises in the case of fire or other emergencies is the responsibility of the leader of the guest party who should familiarise him/herself with the fire provisions displayed in the Scullery. The house is fitted with smoke detectors; fire extinguishers, fire blanket and torches are provided for emergency use. The house is non-smoking. Pets and service dogs are welcome if arranged in advance.

Local Facilities

There is a convenience store in Woolavington (the next village). Turn right at the triangle in Cossington, follow the main village road all the way round the sharp left bend, past the vet on the right at the end of the village and carry on until you come to a T-junction. Turn right at the T-junction, next left onto the council housing estate (Old Mill Road), second left and you will see the shop in front of you. It is open until 10.00 p.m. There is a full description of local shops and facilities in our Guest Information File located in the Kitchen or on our website if you are planning your trip in advance.

There are no leisure facilities on-site at Cossington Park but there are many facilities nearby described in our Guest Information File and on the website.

The nearest banks and building societies are in Bridgwater, where there are branches of NatWest, Lloyds TSB, Barclays, Abbey National, Bristol & West/Britannia, Nationwide, Birmingham Midshires, TSB and HSBC/Midland. Chemists in Bridgwater are: Boots, 34 Fore St, Bridgwater, 01278 422011; Catliff, 48 North St, Bridgwater, 01278 422108; Superdrug, 19 Fore St, Bridgwater, 01278 423055.

The nearest dentists are: Bridge House Dentist (National Health), Bridgwater, 01278 439420; Bridgwater Dental Practice, Symons Way, East Quay, Bridgwater, 01278 411414. The local doctors’ surgery is in Edington. Turn right out of the house, up the hill, and on to the next but one village (two miles). The telephone number is 01278 722077. For out of hours emergencies ring 01278 722077, or ring 999 if it’s an emergency.

The nearest hospital and casualty unit is Taunton, Musgrove Park Hospital, 01823 333444.

The local police station is in Bridgwater, 01934 635252.

Like so many villages, Cossington sadly lost its post office recently. The nearest ones now are in the Convenience Store, off Old Mill Road, Woolavington, or Middle Street, Puriton.

The gates can be left open for your arrival on request. Park in front of t he left hand garage and a few metres from the side door to the cottage, which is the most accessible as it has a wheelchair ramp allowing easy access for both wheelchairs and buggies. The key-safe is to the right of the side door of the cottage on the facing wall.  The door is 34.65 inches wide or 880 mm wide.

Cottage facilities

The ground floor of the cottage is all on the same level and has a wooden floor through out. Lighting is by LED strips and the wall colourings are whi te or natural. There is a double or twin room on the ground floor, an accessible wet-r oom, open plan kitchen, diner and sitting room opening onto a decked terrace. The passage between the wet-room and the ground floor bedroom is 32.0 8 inches or 815 mm wide and the bedroom door way is 31.5 inches or 800 m m wide. In the dining room the clear height under the table is 24.4 inches or 6 20 mm. The chairs are upright without arms. The wooden floor is even and the room well lit with LEDs and uplighters.

The kitchen is open plan and the oven door and hob 30 inches or 760 mm high and the microwave door is 58 inches or 1470 mm high. It is possible for this to be temporarily placed on the work surface, which is 37 inches or 940 mm high. The highest drawer in the fridge is 14.96 inches or 380 mm high and the lowest is 5.8 inches or 147 mm high. The sink has a single mixer lever tap and the kettle is cordless with a 360 o swivel.

There is a ground floor wet-room across the corridor from the ground floor bedroom. The wet room doorway is 30.75 inches or 780 mm wide. The shower has no tray, is fully height adjustable and has portable electric controls. The WC is 16.75 inches or 425 mm from floor to seat. The washbasin is 36.5 inches or 930 mm high with no pedestal and lever taps. There are grab rails adjacent to the toilet and in the shower. There are two further portable grab rails located under the stairs if required. There is a dark slate floor with a pale wall. The ground floor bedroom has a zip and link bed that can be configured as two singles or a double. The bed is 25 inches or 635 mm high and there is no clear space under the bed. The room has a substantial upright armchair.

To the first floor there are 15 stairs of 7.2 inches or 180 mm in height. Stairs are 32 in ches or 810 mm wide. The bath in the first floor bathroom is 610 mm or 24 inches in height to the lip.

The decked terrace is accessible through folding French windows stretching the full width of the sitting room area. The decking is on the same level as the kitchen with a small lip housing the window runners. The garden is accessible via a concrete sloped ramp and it has a handrail 39.5 inches or 1 metre high. The ramp is 56.5 inches or 1440 mm wide. At the top of the ramp a gate to the right allows access to the greater the walled garden and the greater estate. The two bedrooms and upstairs bathroom are accessed via a robust cottage staircase with wooden handrails.

Cossington Park

For those who are part of a greater party using both properties there is a step free route from the side door of the cottage to back door of Park House via the Park House garden gate, there are two ramps on the route and there are no steps into Park House. Please also see the separate access statement for Park House above.
